Student Governments

At The Ohio State University, there are three recognized student governments that represent their constituents.

Undergraduate Student Government (USG)

USG Web Site

USG consists of elected and appointed student representatives who serve as liaisons from the undergraduate student body to university officials. USG seeks to outreach to and work for the students at the Ohio State University.

Location: Ohio Union @ Ohio Stadium Room 117A
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Phone: (614) 292-2101
eMail: usg@osu.edu
Website: http://usg.osu.edu/

Council of Graduate Students (CGS)

CGS promotes and provides academic, administrative, and social programs for the university community in general and for graduate students in particular. The Council provides a forum in which the graduate student body may present, discuss, and set upon issues related to its role in the academic and non-academic aspects of the University community.

Location: Ohio Union @Ohio Stadium Rooms 117C, 118F
Phone: (614) 292-4380
eMail: cgs@osu.edu

Inter-Professional Council (IPC)

USG Web Site

The IPC is a representative body of all professional students in the colleges of Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. Its purpose is to act as a liaison between these students and the governing bodies of the University.

Location: Ohio Union @ Ohio Stadium Room 117C
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Phone: (614) 292-9622
eMail: ipcouncil@osu.edu

Governance organizations: All student organizations recognized by the University Senate as representative bodies and holding seats on the University Senate are considered governance organizations for the purposes of student organization registration and its related services. Generally, governance organizations must meet the requirements for Established Student Organizations and follow the guidelines on fundable/non-fundable expenses.

Additional registration requirements:

1. An on-campus general ledger chart field;

2. Submit quarterly budget reports to the CSA Allocations Committee;

3. Approval from the Council on Student Affairs to carry forward more than 25% of their annual budget above their reserves (not to exceed 10% of their annual budget);

4. Submit a written inventory of all equipment to the Office of Student Affairs each time there is a change in officers and at least once per year;

5. Inventory shall include the OSU tag # or a complete description of the equipment, purchase or trade date and price, current condition, and exact location; the Vice President of Student Affairs may request an on-site inspection to verify the inventory.

Exemptions:

1. May limit membership based on student classification—graduate, professional, and undergraduate student

2. Are not required to have an off-campus checking account

3. May use student activity fee monies for general operating expenses, including travel, provided they comply with relevant University guidelines on spending. These expenses include the following:

  • Travel may include participation at conferences, registration fees associated with conferences, and food costs limited to the federal guidelines on per diem
  • Equipment
  • Other general office supplies that may be provided by the SOURCE; Student governance organizations are prohibited from availing themselves of supplies and materials at the SOURCE.

4. May purchase the equipment and other capital expenses necessary to operate their offices

5. May pay for staffing, with the prior approval of the Vice President for Student Affairs

Currently there are three governance organizations: Council of Graduate Students, Inter-Professional Council, and Undergraduate Student Government. In order to facilitate their representative functions, the Council on Student Affairs allocates 10% (currently approximately $224k) of the student activity fee monies to the student governance
