Who created, maintains, and updates your organization's website?
Scott Dudis, a senior from Wyoming, Ohio, created SigEp’s new website in the summer of 2008. With the increasing traffic to our old, outdated website, it was decided that a new site was needed for our organization. Scott, working with an alumni mentor, created the website in 3 months. As part of the design, Scott created the site so that it could be updated by someone with very little programming experience. This will allow all members with access the ability to edit rosters, upload photos, and write news articles, all in an easy, non technical way.
What makes your website outstanding?
Our website is effective because of the ease in which information is conveyed. A strict “two click rule” was used so that all information that is needed by a user can be obtained by only two clicks of the mouse. Users will never get irritated and leave the site due to the hierarchical structure of the site layout. Scroll distance on each page was reduced by having clickable drop down text boxes. These clickable text boxes not only reduced the amount that a user has to scroll on a page, but also lets the user select what information that want to learn, and omits details about SigEp that they may already know. Clarity of information is critical to users who may potentially be visiting out site for the first time, and our site was designed to do just that. This website allows interested members to get involved. Our site also effectively uses a “Members Only” internal page, which is off limits to the public. Members are able to log in with their own username and password to the internal section. Roster information, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and any forms a member may need can all be accessed through the internal page. Having one place to do many tasks is key for a large organization such as SigEp, and our website effectively creates a place for this to happen.
