Outstanding Student Organization Program Award
Organization: Pakistani American Students Association (PASA)
Describe your program and how it enhanced student life at OSU.
PEACE CONCERT: SOUTH ASIA’s Biggest Band “JUNOON” at OSU-

AKA U2 of South Asia.

The Pakistani American Students Association (PASA) collaborated with the OUAB and USG to present the biggest Pakistani event at OSU. This was a historical event as the artists from both Pakistan-(Salman Ahmad of Junoon) and India-(Sameer Chatterjee:classic Tabla player) performed together at the stage. Salman Ahmad is also the UN Ambassador for Aids Awareness and the UN Special Peace Representative.

This event had a lot of importance as Pakistan and India have been going through tense relations but the event helped in making a strong statement about peace. This was also really important for OSU as it was used as a platform to raise the voice of students from Pakistan and India who want to promote peace and harmony in this world.

The event was also a very good educational program for OSU local community. It provided the chance for people to learn about South Asian Music and Culture. The event was open to all the students and was highly attended.

The event was covered by Lantern, the news papers in Pakistan and Junoon’s website. It helped in bridging the gap between students as they danced to the tunes of famous Junoon songs. All in all it was a great event to promote diversity on OSU campus.

Why is this program the most outstanding at OSU? How does it actively involve students, embrace the university initiatives of diversity and/or collaborate with other organizations or university departments?
This Program was the perfect way of enhancing diversity, social interaction, and learning on OSU campus and local Columbus Community.

The Concert was open and free to all OSU students and it promoted the South Asian music and culture. This helped to promote diversity on campus.

The program also served as a great opportunity for social interaction as students from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh got together to celebrate their common culture.

This is was first time that Pakistani artists performed at OSU campus and it was a great learning experience for the OSU students. The event provided the opportunity to OSU students to learn about Pakistani music and culture.

The American students were amazed to the the classic eastern "Tabla-Drum" performance. Along with that they learned about the SUFI ROCK MUSIC of Pakistan.
