What is Community Commitment?

Volunteering just doesn't get any bigger than this.  Community Commitment is one of the largest single-day community service events on a college campus in the country!  Each year approximately 1,500 Buckeyes participate in this one-of-a-kind community service project.

Community Commitment will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2007.  This is your opportunity to spend the day before classes begin volunteering in the Columbus community.  Service sites, transportation, and meals will be provided.  All volunteers will also receive a Community Commitment t-shirt.

Over 90 community organizations participate in Community Commitment.  The volunteer projects include outdoor clean-up, working with youth, literacy education, serving meals, office work, and a variety of other worthwhile projects.  This is a great opportunity to experience the wide variety of community involvement opportunities available at Ohio State.

Information for Volunteers

To volunteer, plan to arrive at the Ohio Stadium on September 18 for check-in by 10:00 am.  You will sign up for your service site upon arrival.  Please be sure to dress comfortably for a variety of different activities.

All groups must arrive at the Ohio Stadium to check in together in order to have the opportunity to volunteer together.  Large groups, that cannot be accommodated by our service sites, may be asked to split into smaller groups.  Please be prepared to do this if you will be volunteering with a group.

Information for Student Site Leaders

Student Site Leaders are needed to lead groups of other students to and from the site, serve as a liaison to the community organization, and facilitate a reflection activity.  All Site Leaders must attend a training session on Sunday, September 16 or Monday, September 17.  This is a great opportunity to build your leadership and involvement experiences through community service.

Site Leader Registration Forms will be available in spring quarter on the Ohio Union website.
