What is Commencement Week?

Commencement Week is a series of events taking place during the days leading up to the Spring Commencement Ceremony in June to appreciate all graduating students and to provide an opportunity for graduates and their families to celebrate their momentous achievement!

Who can participate?

All undergraduate, graduate, and professional students graduating in 2008-2009 are encouraged to participate and to invite their family and friends along.  There is no need to RSVP for any of the events.

What's on the schedule?

Details are still being finalized, so make sure to check back here often.  In the meantime, here are some of the highlights...

Time and Change Tailgate

Immediately following the Commencement Rehearsal at the Ohio Stadium on Friday, June 12, enjoy food, music, interactive games, and more as you kick back with the Class of 2009.

Things You Never Got to See Tour

Curious about some of those mysterious, hidden gems on campus?  You and your families can check out some of the hot spots on the “Things You Never Got to See Tour.”

Commencement Eve Candlelight Ceremony

At 9:00pm on the night before Commencement (Saturday, June 13), all graduating students are asked to congregate on the Oval for a very special candlelight ceremony.  Hear from some of your favorite campus celebrities, including a student chosen through a competitive process to give a Commencement Eve address and receive your class pin, available only at this event.  Share one of the most powerful experiences with your fellow Buckeyes – a candlelight rendition of Carmen Ohio on the Oval.

I’ve heard I can apply to be the speaker at the Commencement Eve Candlelight Ceremony.  How can I do that?

If you’re an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student graduating this spring, you are eligible to apply to be the speaker at this special ceremony.  The application consists of one essay question.  Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of staff, faculty, and students, and the finalists will be invited to audition.  To get more information or to apply, CLICK HERE.

How can I find out more?

Check back here at the Commencement Week website in the coming weeks to get more details or contact Matt Couch at couch.28@osu.edu or (614)292-8763.
