The Allen County Fair is one of the biggest events that Allen County offers. As one of the biggest fairs in Ohio, the 125 acre fairgrounds hosts approximately 220,000 visitors annually and goes to great lengths to provide a clean, fun, and safe atmosphere. The fair also brings in big name performers to put on shows at very reasonable prices, not to mention the fair’s food which is just another addition to all our fair has to offer. During the offseason the fairground hosts the Ohio National Championship Motorcycle races and the 4-Wheel Off-Road Jamboree as well as craft shows, flea markets, and many other events.
Allen County is also great because it is the home of the Lima Army Tank Plant which has produced over 7,000 tanks since the time they opened in the 1980’s to help keep our country safe and it has also brought many jobs to our area.

If you were to ever visit Brown County, the must see is definitely the county fair, among other things. The county fair is a good thing to see because it is quite large for such a small town and it represents the county well. The fair food is explanation enough in my opinion. The tractor pulls are also a must at the fair, as well as the parade of the first day. Other things to see would be the boyhood home of Ulysses S. Grant, as well as the schoolhouse he attended as a boy, both of which are located in my hometown. :)

Champaign County Fair- If you attend the fair, you must see the pig and calf scrambles, the truck and tractor pulls, various concerts, and the biggest livestock presentation around. You also have to try the sugar waffles or funnel cakes.

Also I would suggest going to Beaver Creek State Park, which has a working grist mill and homes, schools, and other buildings from when the pioneers were settled there.

If I had to narrow it down, I'd say that there are two places that you definitely need to visit when you come to Fairfield County. The most visible feature of Fairfield is the first attraction on my list. If you enjoy hiking, picnicking, or just relaxing, Rising Park is the ideal location. Mt. Pleasant is my favorite place to hike, with several trails going all around and over the 250ft bluff. The surrounding park has a couple ponds, a playground, and several great picnic locations.
After spending all afternoon hiking, a person can get really hungry. The second place that you need to visit is Tiberio's Pizzeria Ristorante. This Italian eatery is located in Historic Downtown Lancaster on Main St. It is a family owned pizzeria that serves a variety of Italian food, but is best known for pizza and great prices. This is the only place that I eat at where I always end up getting dessert, mostly because I absolutely love their Italian Ice.

One great place to visit in Guernsey County is Salt Fork State Park. I had the pleasure of working at the lodge there this summer, and not only is that beautiful, but just the drive through the park is gorgeous! It’s a great place to go for a day at the beach, a picnic, or just to get away from every-day life and spend some time in nature. Another neat thing about Guernsey County is downtown Cambridge, where the county courthouse is located. It is a historical and beautiful part of town. Not only this, but during the winter months, there are life-size Charles Dickens Village characters lining the streets. It is a nice addition to an already quaint setting. Guernsey County has many interesting characteristics and sites such as these that make it a great place to visit!

Even if you don't have a ticket to the ballgame, there is so much more for you to participate in. Every year thousands of children men and women of every age line the streets of downtown Cincinnati to watch the Opening Day parade, the fireworks display, circus performances and much much more. We are fiercely proud to be home to baseball's first professional team and continue to pour downtown for each and every Opening Day. My county doesn’t have as much as most counties have to offer but it is a major hub in the coal industry. Up until recently Harrison County was home to “The Silver Spade”, the last giant stripping shovel to operate in the world. It tipped the scales at 14 million pounds and stood over 210 feet tall. The Spade broke down for the last time April 2006 after forty one years of service. It was dismantled in September of the same year.

My home town of Ironton, Ohio was the richest site of iron ore mines in the United States during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The iron mined from the hills of Lawrence County was melted in Charcoal Iron Furnaces that can still be seen today in Wayne National Forest. During the Civil War, Ironton was one of three places in the entire United States that produced the quality iron needed for heavy cannon and the construction of Iron Clad Ships.
Ironton also has the oldest running Memorial Day Parade in the country.

Longaberger Home Office is located in Newark, in Licking County. Longaberger is a basket company, so their office is an impressive 7-story woven basket. The basket is a replica -- 160 times larger -- of Longaberger's Medium Market Basket. It's 192 ft. long by 126 ft. wide at the bottom, spreading to 208-ft. long by 142-ft. wide at the roofline. This is a very impressive building.
Also in Licking County, earthen Indian mounds scatter the landscape. The Great Circle Earthworks were built by the Hopewell Indians about 2000 years ago. The largest circle is almost 1200 feet in diameter and is approximately 8 inches off of a perfect circle. The Octagon Earthworks takes up a total of about 50 acres. The octagon itself is believed to be a giant type of calendar. Recently there was an eclipse/planetary alighment, for which the sun and moon aligned perfectly with gaps in the octagon. Although most of the earthworks have been destroyed, the ones which remain are still impressive.

What you have to see in my county...
I always look forward to is the International Festival in Lorain. The International Festival commemorates Lorain County’s diversity by having a week-long celebration that first begins with a wine tasting gala. However, the crowning of the International Princess, to me, is when the festivities truly begin. The weekend following the Pageant is the International Festival Bazaar, where one can experience food from all over the world! Every booth is unique, with delicious food that has people waiting in long lines. At night, the combination of the Lake’s Erie’s warm breeze and the sound of electrifying music makes you want to stay there and celebrate all night. After the Bazaar, other ceremonies ensue, which are then topped off by the Parade. Together, people stand outside in the heat to watch various high school marching bands play music that lifts everyone’s spirits, leaders of our community wave their hands and smile, and a rain of candy that has children crazily jump in the path of the parade.
Throughout this week, you can’t help but find yourself more fond of your neighbors and your community. It is a week of unity, of happiness, and of great food.

Mill Creek Metro Park is the second largest metropolitan city park in the United States following Central Park in New York City. The park has everything from walking trails to waterfalls, pavilions, and a lake. The park holds many events in our county such as Christmas at the Mill, where vendors set up shop inside the old mill and bagpipers and roasting chestnuts make for an old fashioned Christmas. It is a beautiful place to see if you are ever in Mahoning County.

If you visit Marion County you have to stop by the Marion Popcorn Festival. The first weekend after Labor Day downtown turns into a carnival of all sorts of things. From famous music acts such as Blake Shelton, Phil Vassar, and Styx to the largest variety of flavors of popcorn you have ever seen. Being the world’s popcorn capital, you can figure you’re going to get some pretty good stuff if you try it. Although Marion County isn’t huge we can put on a pretty good festival so if you’re ever in the neighborhood check it out.

What you have to see in my county...
If you ever are in Mercer County you need to visit Grandlake, the largest man-made lake in Ohio. The lake is especially fun in the summer when you can enjoy jet-skiing, boating, or hanging out in the sun. Another great part of Mercer County is the high school athletics. Mercer County has extremely talented sports teams during all three seasons, and it is amazing to be in the stands during an athletic event between two rival schools. The atmosphere of a high school sporting match in Mercer County is absolutely amazing and full of determination, excitement, and definitely pride. The excitement is nearly an indescribable experience and one that can only be understood if one purchases the ticket, squeezes into a seat, jumps up and down every time a point is made, takes part in the cheers, and witnesses when that last second point is scored at the buzzer to clench the victory. So all-in-all, you definitely won’t be disappointed if you enter a gymnasium or the football field on a Friday night, or attend an intense girl’s volleyball match on a Saturday morning in Mercer County.

Beallsville lost the most men per capita during the Vietnam War, so the traveling wall comes every two years and it is an amazing experience. There are square dances, games, food stands, and a memorial service to remember the men who lost their lives for our country.

The Big Muskie Bucket is a sight that you would have to see if you ever visited Noble County. Being a generally rural, though beautiful, county there is very little specific attractions available to see. However, the Big Muskie Bucket, what looks quite a lot like a giant yellow bulldozer bucket, that was used in coal mining in the area, not only is a rather remarkable sight and an object of interesting historical value, the road to the Big Muskie takes you through some stunning scenery of lush rolling hills and sylvan beauty that makes Noble county such a wonderful county to call home for me.

If you ever find yourself in Pike Co. during the last full weekend in April, you should make it a point to visit the Dogwood Festival. The festival officially kicks off on Thursday with the Grand Marshal of the parade being named and the crowning of the festival queen and her court. Throughout the weekend you can immerse yourself in the various activities such as the chainsaw contest, Pike Co. Idol, pie eating, arm wrestling and corn hole contests. You can even go on a trail ride or participate in the 5K run. There’s usually a magic act for the kids and the talented ladies of Bobbi Jo’s Cloggers perform. In addition, the festival always features live bands. There’s tons of great food and definitely something for everyone. You can buy homemade apple butter, get deep fried oreos, wraps, burgers, pizza, you name it. If you’re in the mood for a nice home cooked meal-- you can get that too at the local Methodist church while viewing some of the most beautiful quilts. Sunday morning begins the car show and it’s a must see! Following the car show is the Grand Parade. Over 10,000 people attend each year and I know why. It’s a truly fun filled weekend and parking and admittance are free. So, come join my county the last full weekend in April in the streets of downtown Piketon. You won’t be sorry!

Tecumseh! The Outdoor Drama- It’s put on almost every night during the summer, and it’s absolutely riveting. The set is beautiful too.
Junior Fair Night at the Ross County Fair- It’s so much fun, and there’s something for everybody to enjoy watching or for the students to take part in! There is an apple pie contest, outhouse race, lip-sync contest, and more, and the very last event is the calf scramble, where 4-Hers compete to catch a calf in an arena, and if they do, they get to take it home and show it the next year at the fair! It’s really exciting and usually very funny.
Downtown Chillicothe- There are so many unique shops and restaurants, and it’s especially beautiful at Christmastime. The city park is also right there, which is a great place to go to spend time with friends or family.

This beautiful paved path stretches across the county, winding from Elmore to Clyde, through apple orchards, cornfields, and parks, alongside rail lines, and over the majestic Sandusky River. This magnificent trail offers something for everyone to enjoy on his or her journey. It is open year-round for all sorts of physical activity. On any day one can see women power walking at an incredible speed, families bicycling the entire 20 miles of the path, and fathers pushing their children in strollers past the adorable furry critters running around them. On some special days one even may catch a glimpse of a graceful deer standing just off the path.

The Seneca County Tiffin Heritage Festival is a wonderful display of our county’s history and culture. Here you can find a living village of people taking pride in their ancestors and past achievements. The community puts on a display varying from American Indians and their lifestyle all the way to the Civil War days. It is such a an amazing scene, to watch cannons being shot off, while walking past Mary Todd Lincoln tell a tale from her days. The smell of kettle corn and fresh root beer is amazing and the site of small children making crafts and watching in awe as a blacksmith creates an iron horseshoe. This festival means so much to our community, helping everyone remember the past and help realize how society has changed. Growing up, this is one experience I loved to be a part of, because it has helped me be thankful of the building blocks that helped shape my home.
