New Ohio Union/Transition

Project Overview

A vibrant student union contributes significantly to the life of a university. The first student union at a public university was built at Ohio State in 1909 (Enarson Hall); the current Ohio Union was built in 1951 with a student fee. The New Ohio Union Project is set to replace the current structure enabling Ohio State to become a benchmark institution once again.

Seeking LEED status:
The New Ohio Union Project will be seeking to achieve LEED Certified status. LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  LEED is a whole-building approach which encourages and guides a collaborative, integrated design and construction process that optimizes environmental and economic factors.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.  For more information about LEED, please visit the U.S. Green Building Council website.
