Sorority and Fraternity Recruitment 2010

The Ohio State University is truly a great university. Recognized for excellence in teaching and research, it is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier institutions. Ohio State is also nationally acclaimed for its outstanding Greek community, with many of its chapters winning national awards on a yearly basis. OSU's Greek community contributes in unique and distinctive ways to enhancing student life and learning.

At the beginning of winter quarter, your child will have the opportunity to participate in a formal recruitment process to join a sorority or fraternity. Joining a sorority or a fraternity is an enriching and rewarding experience that will last a lifetime.

The primary purpose of Greek life at Ohio State is the development of student talent. All students have potential and the Greek community is committed to assisting each member realize that talent in a number of areas - intellectual, social, physical, and artistic. Greeks are committed to academic achievement and academic excellence. Many chapters maintain grade point averages substantially higher than other groups on campus. Greeks believe that giving is more important than taking and community service is one expression of this core value. Both on campus and within the Columbus community, OSU Greeks are committed to service. From volunteering in area schools to conducting philanthropies for the St. Jude's, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and other charitable organizations, Greeks provide broad-based involvement in a variety of service oriented activities. The Greek experience is also designed to develop leadership skills - skills valued by employers and graduate and professional schools. Finally, Greek life contributes to the development of social skills - interpersonal competence, communication skills and self confidence. Greek life is also just plain fun; and fun should be part of any college experience!

There are also opportunities for parents to participate with their son or daughter. There are Mom and Dad Weekends when you can visit your student in their chapter house, get to know their friends, and meet other OSU parents.

On behalf of Sorority and Fraternity Life, we invite you to learn more about our Greek Community here at Ohio State through our website or by calling our office at 614.292.7924.
